The boot disk has the tools you need to do this at runtime. 
Just say 'mknod /dev/hda5 b 3 5'
hda6 would be 'mknod /dev/hda6 b 3 6' etc.
hdb is similar, just change the minor values like:
'mknod /dev/hdb5 b 3 69'
'mknod /dev/hdb6 b 3 70'

I'll add more in the future, but for now, this should help you along.
