Hello all

Got further along now but it locked up early in the formatting / filesystem
(twice.)

The details

1 Desktop has rh 7.2 cd1 mounted and nfs exported.
2 Boot laptop with pcmcia.img 0.7.0 typed linux dd updates
3 pcmciadd 0.7.0
4 at drivers disk prompt inserted drvblock 0.7.0
5 left lang & keyboard at defaults
6 using nfs, static IP (as is desktop)
7 inserted newest 1.4mb updates image disk 0.7.0-a
8 chips & tech 65548 pci video not probed
9 dstn screen not probed
10 sees the mouse stick as generic 3 button ps/2 so I change to generic 2
button ps/2 & no emulation for 3 buttons
11 accepted default of laptop installation (though previous attempt I chose
low mem option with same ultimate lockup)
12 Having fdisked, (from previous attempt) hda (the only hdd, size 1.2 gb)
and already had:
hda1	51mb	ext3	/boot
hda2	64mb	swap
hda3	1179mb	ext3	/

I thought to accept the default auto partition & deleting all existing
partitions this time.
It came up with

hda1	49mb	ext3	/boot
hda2	1055mb	ext3	/
hda3	190mb	swap

(I think putting swap in hda2 makes it slightly faster access but didn't
argue this time.)

13 Accepted default of grub in mbr
14 added no special options to pass to kernel
15 No other os's but rh
16 no additional langs
17 one ordinary user besides root (shame it made me give a 6 character
password for user)
18 package groups selected were network support and dialup support, no
individual selections
19 Just starts to format / filesystem and locks up
Richard
