[Rule-list] What is sunrpc?

Hello,

playing with my machine (RH 7.3) I just realized that there is an open
port I didn't know:

[root at polaris root]# nmap -sT localhost
[snip]
111/tcp    open        sunrpc                  
[snip]

Do you know what service this is, and if there is any reason to leave
it open/running on a typical RULE box?
