In addition to the things Gabriel mentions, could you also try to mount 
the filesystem? If you can get it mounted, you should be able to access 
the install log, which would be useful.
Try:
mkdir /mnt/filesystem
mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/filesystem
ls /mnt/filesystem/root/scripts/install.log
If you get no errors....
Insert a floppy (Formatted for the machine you use for email)
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
cp /mnt/filesystem/root/scripts/install.log /mnt/floppy

If you can then email me a copy of the log, I'd be happy to look it 
over.
