Another possibility:
insmod /lib/modules/"$version"/kernel/drivers/cdrom/cdrom.o &&
insmod /lib/modules/"$version"/kernel/drivers/cdrom/sbpcd.o sbpcd=0x230,1
The "&&" should force the first command to complete before attempting the
second.
Also, this may have been a typo, but one of your mails had the options as:
sbpcd=0x230.1
Rather than:
sbpcd=0x230,1
