This would require that the end user have a linux system available, along 
with the necessary packages to build the disk. However, I do want to 
include the ability to do something along the lines of a kickstart 
install option at some point.

I've no problem with this. In fact I tried previously, but ran into 
difficulty. The mount command included with busybox is a little strange. 
It complains about the 'noauto' mount option in fstab, and if that isn't 
used, it mounts the boot disk at startup. If you use the noauto option, 
the disk doesn't get mounted at startup, however mounting an ext2 
filesystem on /mnt/floppy fails complaining about the noauto option.

I think I have solved it, though. I'm testing some new images, and I 
included a line in the init scripts to create the fstab entry after the 
other filesystems are mounted. It should work, and not interfere with 
anything.
