larry,

thanks, its nice to know people may be interested in such a distro.

well getting back to the main issue, i don't know to use slinky but will
definitely go through it today or tomorrow. also i will check freshmeat
for clarkconnect docs.

regarding the dependencies i have worked it out and (very well tested)
and have a full list required for the kind of install that i am doing.

i have also worked out what are rpms to install or remove (again very
well tested).
currently i do a base install of stock RH_7.1, without selecting
anything (this is about 224Megs) and later add/remove the necessary
rpms. Now this process i want to automate while installation, maybe
using slinky or anaconda.

what i remove:

lokkit, ipchains, raidtools, hotplug, apmd, anacron, ash, at, sendmail,
ed, dhcpcd (pump is a much better client with a small footprint)
ksymoops, mailx (this is required if we install logcheck/logsentry),
mailcap (not sure what it does is it related to mime parser),
redhat-logos (will update this), authconfig, setuptool

what i add /update :

all the RH 7.1 updates
also perl, tcsh, (update lilo) iputils, wvdial, pppd, xinetd, iproute,
links, traceroute, ncftp client, ftp client, telnet client sharutils( at
odd compiles these are asked for) (i may miss some packages refer to the
list)

for being able to compile tarballs and the kernel source i add,
cproto, cpp, ctags, bison, byacc, flex, m4, ElectricFence, patch, make,
Kernel-headers, glibc-devel,libstdc++-devel, binutils, gcc, gcc-c++,
automake, autoconf, dev86 & bc (required at odd compiles)

for kde install the list is long about 35 packages are required, you can
check it in the previous mails attachment, exact list if some wants i
can mail him.

so this the base install + compiles_packages for server class
and base + kde for desktop (we can add the compile_packages inthis if we
want)

i have also built rpm form src.rpm for gcc3 and binutils which i plan to
use in the final cd.Also want to add iptables-1.2.6a,
shorewall/giptables firewalling scripts, snort, nessus, nmap, rdesktop
(linux terminal client for windows terminal server), may add some more
packages as the list is long.

i plan use kernel-2.4.18 with pptp masquerade(patch-o-matic) and with
the HTB patch for traffic shaping, and also add pptp server/client
packages, another kernel package (2.4.16) with freeswan support out of
the box. qmail with patches, djbdns, publicfile etc.

the whole idea is if there is a requirement for freeswan just use the
other kernel, for pptp use the other one, similar for tarffic shaping
use something else or the default.

big list but the part about getting all the packages together is over,
stuck on how to install ??? need some inputs here so that i can finish
it sooner. :)

regards / shekhar

ps i know that was a long one but need to put it right thanks
