[Rule-list] Lilo, not Grub?

I actually found this quite obvious. The screen it shows up with the 
choices of os's says on it something along the lines of "...press 'a' 
 to append kernel options...". Then it gives you the kernel line to an 
edit.  This is what the one that came with RH7.3 says. Just had to 
resort to it myself, as I messed up my XFree86.conf.

Is there an easy way to stop gdm cutting in without going into single 
user mode?
