Let me summarize:
   0. typing startx after Slinky 0.3.9. install gives me dark screen on
   *that one* computer (it works on an other PC)

   1. changing the videoadapter-HW (replacing the card) does not change
   the problem
   
   2. some suggestens from Michael (other XServer, ...) did not change
   the problem
   
   3. installing RedHat 9 from the CD w/o Rule-Scripts works!
