Yes, and I don't believe that systems with the
coprocessor do not suffer with this enabled.  It
simply goes unused.

Not much expertise here about that, but one thing
I remember: i386 and i486SX processors (without
mathematical coprocessor) need the mathematical
coprocessor emulation enabled in the kernel.
