[Rule] Installation failular

Installing FC4 on my Toshiba Tecra 730CDT I ran into the following 
problems.  During installation the package xineted came up not found.  
The root user was not created didn't even ask for a new password,  A 
normal user was creaded but again didn't ask for a new password.  Then 
more troubbling grub failed to install because the command install-grub 
was not found. After booting the system using the floppy and pointing 
the kernel to the root partition I ended up at a login screen.  That is 
after varirous complaints from the init scripts that the user root 
didn't exist.  After failing to log in as any user (a very safe 
installation if you ask me) due to libpam.so.0 being missing I switched 
the system off and wrote this.  The installer used was slinky v0.5.03.  
I tried installing several times to determin if it was from a random 
hardware glitch or not.  Apparently it wasn't as the same problems 
happened.  If anyone has any suggestions I'm open.
