Briefly, as I inappropriately started this on the list:

Everyone we know (including ourselves) was unaffected directly. The winds have been fanning the fires and carrying the smoke and we were confused by the sight and the smell. The scale of this is without precedent here and many have become ecological refugees. 64 dead and counting. It is beyond words what most of us feel.
