Does someone has experience with Linux (any kind of it) and Mini-ITX boards,
and/or VIA EPIA platfrorm, as presented on:
http://www.via.com.tw/en/VInternet/ppp.jsp
http://www.via.com.tw/en/VInternet/ppp2.jsp
I think that selling/buying platforms like this is better step than buying &
installing minimalist Linux distro on old hardware
(see "[RULE] Sell RULE computers on ebay?" thread)
I know that one company here (K-Systems) is selling computer (they position it
as "Windows terminal") priced at $270 level.
So, I would not be surprised if you can build PC on VIA EPIA platfrorm with
cost of $150 or so.
NOTE that I beleive in minimalist systems/installs, and we should try to
minimize waste of resources (memory, CPU, HDD) even in case we have enough
such resources.
But new systems have ebtter compatibility with up-to-ate kerenl/XFree86 than
4-year old laptops or desktops.
