No need to excuse: the minimalist approach is a must when ones want to
refurbish existing old hw, not a religion. As a matter of fact, I do
hope that such boxes will become more and more popular, and a "RULE
attitude" will certainly help to make the most out of them. I've
seldom mentioned it on this specific forum, but one thing that bothers
me a lot about new hardware is the fact that nobody tells you 
" this is the same PC of
last year (= more than enough for my needs), just cheaper, with
warranty and an USB port for all those cheap peripherals". They all
seem to say " you must give us just as much money as last time, and to
cover the scam we'll throw at you a bunch of stuff that you don't
really need"

Boxes like these are good: real people have kids in school (= need
basic computing to study) and small houses: "small footprint and quiet
operation" are more useful than another GHz of CPU speed in such
cases.
