Absolutely yes. It's also the way I plan to go for the mini-kde (see
webpage): take the rpms prepared by the kde-redhat project, *after*
they have tested them, and massage the spec file.

Have you tried to rebuild _those_ without the X-dependency?

Same here, this is the whole point of RULE: don't use obsolete
software, just strip the fluff from the modern one.
