Please take a look at: http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/
Locally I used CVS to track the changes I made. These are based
on slinky v0.3.97b-vumbox which I got from Ingo. Basicly I changed
setup.sh, the messages at the slinky-boot, a new kernel, busybox and
added one messagebox with dialog to see if it works.
In detail:
*) setup.sh to use localized keymaps. This is documented in:
http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/ There is a readymade disk1 with kernel 2.6.7
and busybox-0.60.5 at:
http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/slinky-v0.3.97b-vumbox.img to test this
change.
*) later I used the now actual kernel 2.6.8.1. See its .config at:
http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/kernel-2.6.8.1-config This can be used with
make oldconfig. And the resulting kernel itself at
http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/kernel-2.6.8.1-bzImage - use it as a
replacement for vmlinuz-rule.
Didn't pay much attention at the modules for NFS-Installation as I
cannot test it here at home. But I think anything other than
cdrom-installation doesn't really work at all - does it?
*) compiled uClibc-0.9.20 as described in "Making Linux Installation
Disks for Fun and Profit" at:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~lennartb/installdisk.pdf
*) compiled a new busybox-1.00-rc3 with the above uClibc. See its
.config at: http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/busybox-1.00-rc3-config or the
resulting busybox itself at http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/busybox-1.00-rc3
and the list of applets http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/busybox.links-1.00-rc3
*) compiled dialog with uClibc and used it for a message-box at begin
of the installation. The dialog-binary:
http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/dialog_1.0-20040721-1
*) everything put together as disk1 and disk2 can be found at:
http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/slinky-fzk01-disk1.img and
http://www.fzk.at/SLINKY/slinky-fzk01-disk2.img

No, that's only an idea.
