Greetings all,

Sorry for my extended period of silence. I have been very engaged by
the need to get ready to move once again, as my wife has accepted a
post in Singapore. This is my reward for marrying someone engaged in
Big Science! {8->

Unlike my slow, multi-stage transition from the US to France, this is
going to be a single-shot process. Unfortunately, this implies that I
am going to have to discard, sell or give away almost all of the
remaining pieces of my "computer museum" that I managed to drag across
the Atlantic from North America.

Bottom line: I've got a few systems and components that may be of
interest to this group. I'll send them to anyone I regularly encounter
here (I suppose that is really only a few of us) for the cost of
shipping. I'll be leaving Sunday, July 2, for a two-week trip to
Italy. I'll be back in Paris from July 16 until I leave for Singapore
on July 23. Marco, I could carry some (not all!) of the items to Italy
if you have an interest, which would cut down on shipping costs.
Otherwise, I can ship them to wherever during that last week in Paris.
Please let me know if you are interested in them before Saturday, July
1. At that point, I will probably use EBay to get them out to anyone
that might be interested in them.

My primary focus has been laptops. Here is what I have:

Dell Latitude LX475D upgraded to LX4100D: Light-weight notebook
computer with a 486DX2-100 processor, 16 MB RAM, 810 MB HDD, and
256-color, 640x480 LCD screen. Includes a Megahertz 28.8 kbps modem/10
Mbit Ethernet combo PCMCIA card, carry case and an adapter that will
allow it to be connected to electric power in France (US-standard plug
otherwise). The battery is only good for about ten minutes use. Way
back when, I used the RULE installer to install Redhat 9 on this
machine, and it's name in the install reports from that time is
runaway.

IBM Thinkpad 365XD. Another light-weight notebook computer. Pentium
Classic 100 MHz notebook with 40 MB RAM, 4 GB HDD, 256-color, 800x600
Dual Scan LCD, internal CD-ROM, external floppy drive. Includes a 3COM
3C589 PCMCIA 10 Mbit Ethernet card with a combo (10BT and 10B2)
transceiver, a Megahertz 28.8 kbps PCMCIA modem, and a carry case. The
AC adapter has a French power cable, but it can be replaced with
whateever your local variant is. The backup battery is dead, so it is
necessary to reset the date and time in the BIOS at start up. Note
that I have never succeeded in getting XFree86 nor Xorg to configure
properly under Linux since RedHat 8. However, X works flawlessly under
NetBSD 3.0, the currently installed OS.

Compaq Presario 1080. This notebook computer is currently out-of-order
due, most likely, to the power connector on motherboard becoming
detached. I fixed this problem once before, years ago, by resoldering
it. Someone that is handy with the hardware could probably fix it, but
I do not have the time right now. Pentium 166 MHz, 32 MB RAM, 800 x
600 LCD panel, internal CD-ROM, floppy drive & LT modem. I do not
recall the hard drive size.

There are also three "partial" systems that might be useful for parts:
a Compaq Presario 1625 (AMD K6 266 MHz, 32 MB RAM, no HDD, internal
floppy drive, 800x600 LCD, AC adapter); an IBM Thinkpad 365X (Pentium
100 MHz, 40 MB RAM, no HDD, 800x600 dual scan LCD, internal floppy
drive, AC adapter); and an IBM Thinkpad 510CS (486-50 "Blue Lightning"
CPU, 20 MB RAM, 190 HDD, single PCMCIA slot, external floppy drive)
that has so many problems that it should probably be discarded.

There are also several PCMCIA 10 Mbit ethernet cards, including two
that have 10b2 transceivers (the coaxial connectors). I can provide
some thin coax cables for these cards, as well as a PCI or ISA NIC
that has a 10b2 connector for someone that would like to use them for
old notebook network installtions. As well, there are several
low-capacity notebook HDDs lying around. There is also an external
SCSI CD-ROM that has a universal power supply and a PCMCIA SCSI card
to go with it. I have used this for several RULE installs in the past.

Finally, there is a mini-tower Pentium classic 200 MHz system with 64
MB of RAM and a couple of smaller hard drives and several NICs in it.
It will be available sometime around July 21, as it is my firewall
machine.

Thanks
CDR
