The RULE sub-project called Mini-Kde aims to package only the essential KDE/KOffice applications, thus lowering greatly the disk space requirements that often make impossible even trying such applications on older computers. In addition to the home page here on the RULE website, there is now also a Linux Journal article describing how to build Mini-KDE for a lighweight desktop.
